WHO IS LEANDA?
Leanda Bowden-Smith is a highly respected Production Buyer who has worked on many high end TV and Film projects for over 30 years. One of three buyers who sourced the props for Casualty Ep1 creating a functional hospital set winning a Team Design RTS award in recognition.
Trained at the BBC a training which still commands high respect today.
Film credits include Jane Campions Portrait of a Lady, I Used to be Famous and numerous TV Drama Series and Films.
Leanda still works as a Production Buyer and Set Decorator but is passionate in passing on all her knowledge and experience to the next generation of Production Buyers.
THE AIM OF THE COURSE
This course is aimed at giving a comprehensive training and understanding of the work involved as a Production Buyer.
A training which will give Students the confidence and ability to execute the role successfully independently.
The job of Production Buyer is very comprehensive and involved and over the 3 days all subjects will be covered.

- ADVICE ON WHERE TO LOOK FOR AND HOW TO SECURE A POSITION AS A PRODUCTION BUYER.
- ON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE COURSE YOU WILL RECEIVE A SIGNED CERTIFICATE.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
Over 3 days the course will be
based at The Classic Prop Hire Company Ltd in London. This will be interesting in itself as you will be surrounded by beautiful period and modern furniture and artefacts which have been used on many TV and Film Sets.
IT WILL INCLUDE
HOW TO:
Break down and mark up a script.
How to create Dressing and Action Prop Lists.
How and what to budget and producing Purchase Orders.
How to create schedules having broken down scripts for the following:
Contacting relevant suppliers i.e. Animals, Vehicles, Home Economists,
Armourers, Florists, Prop Makers to name a few.
Period and Modern Research.
How to work with a Set Decorator
A visit to another Prop House specialising in Drapes and Softs.
Receive physical examples of all paperwork, budgeting, script etc to help you when you begin.
PLUS A LOT MORE! (and of course plenty of coffee and biscuits!!!)
IDEAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE JOB!
- IT IS ESSENTIAL TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE AND HAVE A CLEAN DRIVING LICENCE.
- GOOD COMPUTER SKILLS.
- TEAM PLAYER
- GOOD ATTENTION TO DETAIL
- PROFICIENT AT ACCOUNTS.
- ABLE TO KEEP CALM UNDER PRESSURE.
- GOOD TO HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF PERIOD FURNITURE BUT NOT ESSENTIAL.
- GOOD AT RESEARCH.
THE FIRST TWO ARE ESSENTIAL BUT THE REST WILL HELP IN THE JOB!

- PARKING ON SITE.
- THE COST FOR THE 3 DAY COURSE WILL BE £450 . A DEPOSIT OF £100 WILL BE REQUIRED 4 WEEKS BEFORE THE COURSE BEGINS - 11TH JAN WITH THE BALANCE PAYABLE 2 WEEKS BEFORE THE START - 25TH JANUARY.
